Wellington SCL’s Wellington Hospital anatomical pathology department is experiencing histology result reporting delays due in part to staff absences and sickness with winter respiratory viruses. Extended histology reporting times are expected to continue while we clear the backlog of reporting.
As at 1 August, 80% of histology results are reported within 17 working days of receipt of the specimen at the lab, and 98% of results are reported within 20 working days.
If your case is clinically urgent please note this clearly on the request form and it will be given priority.
An email to pathologist@wellingtonscl.co.nz about an urgent case is also appreciated and will ensure priority. Please take these delays into consideration when booking patients for follow-up appointments. Thank you for your patience during this difficult time for the histology laboratory.
