Eclair CDR FAQs

Q1. What information is stored in the Eclair Data Repository (CDR)?

Answer: Information stored in Eclair Data Repository includes:

  • Your details such as your name, address, NHI number, date of birth etc.
  • The health practitioner’s details who has requested the test
  • The type of test requested and the results Confidential tests are not included in the Eclair CDR database.

Q2. Where is Eclair CDR located and who operates it?

Answer: Eclair CDR is a secure on-line database which is located at and operated by Wellington SCL.

Q3. What additional steps are in place to protect my privacy?

Answer: Eclair CDR is subject to comprehensive privacy arrangements as it contains sensitive health data.  Only health practitioners who are registered under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 and who apply for registration as a Eclair CDR user are able to access the Eclair CDR database. Health practitioners have to comply with their professional governing body’s ethical and professional guidelines which include guidelines concerning patient privacy and confidentiality.

Hospital-based doctors are provided with access to Eclair CDR subject to strict controls in their employment contracts. Hospital based doctors are permitted to view a patient’s community-based laboratory results only if they are currently under the care of that health practitioner. Access to results is audited by Wellington SCL, the Capital and Coast District Health Board, and Hutt Valley District Health Board. Wellington SCL has procedures in place to identify any inappropriate activity. Any breaches are treated extremely seriously.

Q4. What happens when I prevent information sharing?

Answer: All access which allows users to view your test result(s) is removed from Eclair CDR. 

Q5. What is the risk of not sharing my information?

Answer: If you choose to prevent access to your information your treatment may be delayed, for example while tests are repeated at another laboratory.

Q6. What if I have a complaint?
