This resource does not replace the Specimen Collection Guide, which focuses on the technical requirements of the tests; the focus here is to provide guidance as to the best tests to use depending on the clinical situation and to aid interpretation of test results.
These resources are designed to be applicable to the majority of situations, however they will not cover all situations, and do not supplant the need for clinical judgement. These serve as a guide only, and we always recommend discussion with the clinical microbiologist if there is ongoing uncertainty as to the best approach in a given situation.
